Reading the markings
A marking such as 90/90-21 54R gives width, profile, rim diameter in inches, load index and speed rating. Match these to the bike manual.
- Road: continuous tread for grip on tarmac, including in the wet.
- Enduro: a dual purpose compromise with real traction off road.
- Motocross: tall knobs for soft, hard or intermediate terrain.
Replace the tube with the tyre, and a heavy duty tube resists pinch flats at lower pressures.
